Before launching into the redesign, Americaneagle.com worked with the Orange Bowl Committee to discuss the primary audiences and how to best translate this into an appealing design. The site needed to address the festival, committee, and community as well as college football fans. In order to better segment the content, the site was changed from a single site to a multi-site platform. While subtle differences in design establish the game, festival community, and committee sites as separate entities, a unified look pulls the sites together as a cohesive group.
The homepage for the Discover Orange Bowl game, the largest of the four sites, focuses on the key items important for fans, like Facebook and Twitter feeds, a countdown to kickoff, featured news stories, videos, and more. Every component of the four sites is controlled via the idev® CMS, allowing Orange Bowl administrators total control over content updates and the flexibility to expand the sites as needed. There are also several custom pieces, including the ability to upload a cookie-based splash page which appears on the homepage via controls in the CMS.
