Blemish-Free Ecommerce Site Drives Sales for Dermatology Supplier
Delasco is a leading designer and manufacturer of dermatology supplies and skin care products. Headquartered in Council Bluffs, Iowa, the company offers more than 2,500 products and serves more than 8,500 dermatology and medical practices annually.
Challenges
Delasco originally built their ecommerce site on the BigCommerce platform and enjoyed years of successful growth. But when the site’s look and feel started to become a bit dated, company leaders decided to make a major change. The company had grown weary from tech bloat and vendor overload, and leadership wanted to simplify their tech stack while bringing more responsibilities in-house. Leaders wanted to be able to manage the site themselves in the future, and they also wanted to enhance storytelling across the site. Because the Delasco team had previous experience with the system, leaders decided to replatform to Shopify Plus.
In moving to the Shopify platform, Delasco wanted to keep the system as “out-of-the-box” as possible, preferring simplicity and native Shopify apps over custom or third-party apps. But they did have some unique ordering requirements that added complexity to the checkout experience. Delasco wanted to allow users to make “out of inventory” selections and backorder purchases. They also needed to collect and validate medical license information before processing orders on some restricted products.
Solutions
To meet these specific needs, Americaneagle.com leveraged Shopify’s newly launched Markets and Catalogs features to deliver personalized pricing without heavy customization. Our development team also identified and implemented several Shopify apps:
- Checkout Blocks to collect data at checkout for medical license validation requirements
- Pi to provide inventory status notifications on product detail pages
- Hextom Shipping Bar to dynamically display progress toward free shipping
- Fast Simon to enhance on-site search capabilities
These solutions helped Americaneagle.com deliver a flexible, scalable site while minimizing custom development. We also migrated Delasco’s B2B customer data and integrated the new frontend interface with their ERP to provide real time synchronization of product data, inventory, and pricing. In addition, we personalized the experience for logged in B2B users. The site now dynamically suggests products for reorder on the home page and features improved navigation for faster conversions.
What made this project such a joy to work on was the enthusiastic engagement from the Delasco team. We worked hand-in-hand with stakeholders across multiple functional areas, which helped both teams make steady progress towards solving complex problems.
The redesigned site now offers a better user experience, less complexity, fewer vendors, and greater control, giving Delasco the digital destination they need to reach the next stage of ecommerce growth.
