The Chicago Transit Authority (CTA) is the second largest public transportation system in the nation. The CTA’s service area is composed of the City of Chicago, plus 40 suburbs, with a service population of 3.9 million people. On an average weekday, approximately 1.6 million trips are taken on the CTA. The CTA seeks to deliver quality, affordable services that link people, jobs, and communities.
Americaneagle.com worked with the CTA to build a portal to provide bus services to high schools within the city. This portal was developed to help the CTA provide this service and formulate bus routes by better understanding the arrival and dismissal school schedules for students.
To collect all this data, Americaneagle.com built a "members" only site for both the CTA and schools to access. Schools can login to submit the following data on custom forms for their individual needs:
- Regular Schedule – standard arrivals and dismissals Monday- Friday.
- Special Schedule - special arrival/deviations from the regular schedule where students still attend school.
- Closed School Days - any days that students do not attend school for during the school year.
Once the schools input this information, there are a series of exports that a CTA Administrator will login and run to begin to mine the data to create the necessary logistics.
With this new portal in place, the CTA now has the tools necessary to schedule bus service for high schools where it will be most useful.
